The circular economy at the 2027 Canada Games: Putting resource sharing into practice

November 3, 2026

As part of their commitment to sustainability, the 2027 Canada Games are sharing, borrowing and reusing equipment to reduce their environmental footprint and maximize the benefits for the community.

This work is already underway through partnerships with the City of Québec and several sports organizations. About ten requests to borrow equipment have been made for events leading up to the Games. The Games have also reached an agreement to share equipment with the Jeux du Québec in Saint-Georges. Furniture and equipment from FIFA events could also be reused at the Games.

During the Games, some facilities will be shared with the Pentathlon des neiges on the Plains of Abraham and the Snowboard World Cup at Mont-Sainte-Anne. Sharing these facilities will make better use of existing resources and reduce the need for additional infrastructure.

And after the Games? A plan to redistribute the equipment will help extend its useful life. The Games will also leave a lasting sporting legacy by donating more than $1 million worth of sports equipment.

By working with partners and reusing equipment, the 2027 Canada Games aim to put their commitment to sustainability into practice in ways that will benefit the community long after the event.
