2027 Canada Games Torch Lights Up on Parliament Hill in Ottawa

October 16, 2026

With the opening of the 2027 Canada Games just 135 days away, the Games flame lit up today on Parliament Hill, in Ottawa.

Carried by two Canada Games athletes, Cindy Ouellet, 2007 Canada Games Paralympian in Wheelchair Basketball and François-Olivier Roberge, 2003 Canada Games Olympian in long track speed skating, the torch represents a major first step towards the opening ceremony of the Games, which will take place on February 27, 2027, in Québec City.

“There is no better way to unite the country than by bringing Canadians together through sport. The Canada Games Torch Relay is a powerful symbol of unity. It connects communities from coast to coast to coast and celebrates the journeys of athletes, from the field of play to the podium. As the flame makes its way to Québec City for the 2027 Canada Games, it carries the extraordinary hope, drive and determination of the next generation of Canadian athletes.”

- The Honourable Adam van Koeverden, Secretary of State (Sport)

“Lighting the flame is an expected milestone for each edition of the Canada Games. For us, just as for the athletes, their teams and the thousands of volunteers involved, this is one more step towards hosting an event that promises to showcase Québec City and its nordicity through the unifying power of sport, as it was the case for the very first Canada Games that took place, in our city, in 1967. Almost 60 years later, we are more ready than ever to welcome them back. »

- Raphaël Lebailly, Associate Member of the Québec City Executive Committee, responsible for the Canada Games

“We are marking not only the beginning of the 2027 Canada Games Hydro-Québec Torch Relay, but also our 60th anniversary. For 60 years we have been leaving legacies. For 60 years, the host societies have been ensuring continuity from one edition to the next. For 60 years, the Canada Games family has been taking up the torch so that the next generation of athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers and leaders can thrive at the Canada Games and beyond. »

- Catriona Le May Doan, Chair, Canada Games Council

“Today, the flame is on in Ottawa. This symbolic moment represents the spirit of our Games, which is alive and well and will accompany us until the closing ceremony. The 2027 Canada Games have marked the first page in their history today, and it promises to be legendary! »

- Denis Servais, Chair, 2027 Canada Games Host Society

A Flame that Brings Together‍

At each stop, the torch will be carried by people from the host community who stand out for their outstanding commitment and leadership. Each stage of the relay will also be an opportunity to celebrate the Games and to bring people together around activities in which everyone is invited to participate.
