World-Class Ski Slopes Thanks to the 2027 Canada Games

August 12, 2025

With just 18 months to go before the Opening Ceremony of the Games, the 2027 Canada Games Host Society is announcing the start of major upgrades at three iconic competition venues: Mont-Sainte-Anne, Stoneham Mountain Resort, and Le Relais Ski Centre.

These improvements mark the first concrete and lasting legacy for the sports community in the greater Quebec City region.

Enhanced Facilities for Alpine Skiing, Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding Competitions

Mont-Sainte-Anne

Improvements at Mont-Sainte-Anne will allow the mountain to obtain certification from the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS), making it eligible to host international competitions, enhancing the skier experience, and supporting the development of competitive skiing among young athletes.

Planned work includes:

  • Brush clearing.
  • Installation of Type A safety nets.
  • Excavation and grading of terrain.
  • Upgrades and relocation of the snowmaking system on La Crête trail.
  • Drainage optimization.
Stoneham Mountain Resort

The only resort in Eastern Canada with a halfpipe, Stoneham will benefit from long-term infrastructure improvements to support freestyle skiing and snowboarding and to attract a new generation of winter sports enthusiasts. The work will also reduce the need for artificial snow production.

Planned work includes:

  • Excavation, blasting, and terrain development for slopestyle events.
  • Upgrades to snowmaking equipment for the halfpipe.
Le Relais Ski Centre

The redesign of moguls and aerials courses aims to significantly reduce the amount of snow required, generating major logistical and environmental benefits while maintaining top-quality conditions for competitions.

Planned work includes:

  • Excavation, extension, and widening of trails.
  • Terrain filling to optimize jumps and reduce snow requirements.
  • Construction of a block wall for the judges’ tower.
  • Electrical system upgrades.

The work is being carried out by site managers in collaboration with sport federations and local clubs. Construction will take place from August through fall 2025.
