Quebec City, February 3, 2026 — The 2027 Canada Games Host Society is pleased to announce it has received its first major donation from a former Games athlete, Mr. André Couture, who competed in canoe-kayak at the 1977 Canada Games in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador.
Earlier today, Mr. Couture visited the offices of the 2027 Canada Games Host Society to officially present his $50,000 donation to the President, Mr. Denis Servais, and the Vice-President, Mr. Pierre Tremblay.
At his request, Mr. Couture’s donation will be dedicated to purchasing the equipment required for the cross-country skiing competitions at the 2027 Canada Games. Following the Games, this equipment will be donated to the Nordique Mont-Saint-Anne Club to support local training and the hosting of sporting events.
This donation will first benefit the young athletes participating in the Canada Games, while leaving a tangible legacy for the development and hosting of cross-country skiing competitions in the greater Quebec City region.
"As a former athlete of the 1977 Games, I know firsthand how events like the Canada Games build confidence, teamwork, and leadership in our youth, which is why I am proud to support the 2027 Games with a $50,000 donation dedicated to cross-country skiing. We all share a collective responsibility to support projects that inspire the next generation, and I encourage the community to join me in making a real difference in the lives of tomorrow’s athletes."

"Beyond the amount itself, this gift sends a powerful signal: the community believes in the 2027 Canada Games and their ability to leave a lasting impact here in Quebec City. I would like to warmly thank Mr. André Couture for this mobilizing gesture. He is setting an example and reminding us that every contribution, large or small, provides tangible help in offering athletes the best possible conditions and building a legacy that will benefit future generations long after 2027."
